Detailed description of Greystone Golf Course

Greystone Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in the northern part of Baltimore County, not far from I-83 in White Hall, Maryland

Greystone Golf Course opened for play in 1997. The course was designed by Joe Lee, architect of Doral Resort's famed Blue Monster and the courses at Walt Disney World, Greystone Golf Course is a dramatic in layout, challenge and entertainment.

This 18-hole course is situated in a very picturesque valley that is surrounded by large 200 and 300-acre farms. There are a number of elevation changes. The difference from the lowest portion of the course to the highest is approximately 150 feet. The course is scenic with great views of the surrounding area. Water hazards come into play on seven of the eighteen holes and the course has more than 80 bunkers. The tall hardwood trees, wetlands, and native vegetation add an abundance of character to the design. Greystone is one of the five courses owned and operated by Baltimore County Golf.

WOW! Great Course! Played 8 AM Tuesday 3/13 for $48. This course is "in the sticks" but what a beautiful sight; standin at the club house at 7:45am and overlooking the course was simply a delightful experience.

I found the starters, the Pro Shop staffer & the lady at the Food Bar to be very - very friendly and accommodating. They really made me fell appreciated for having traveled to the Baltimore area & picked their course to play.....

I enjoyed every hole on the course. At 8am, I was the only person on the course. Everything about the course was great - tee boxes were landscaped, green cut true, fairways very well maintained for early spring. They did have a crew putting in irrigation on the 9th fairway; I just dropped my "gimmie" drive near them & played in... to that huge false front of a green! Which I only two putted! I am most definetely playing this course - every time I visit Baltimore!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Our group of travelling seniors plays here about once or twice a year, when the winter rates kick in. Played for $34 11-11-08, with the Tee Time Book, which is an excellent price for this outstanding golf course.

Greystone is the crown jewel in the Baltimore County course system, and ranks with the very best public courses in this part of the state, especially at the winter price. Layout is very challenging, with wonderful vistas, and the sense that this is a round to savor (even if one is not playing well).

Design is memorable, with no two holes looking at all alike, and almost perfect employment of the rolling terrain: one has the sense that the architect did not move any dirt, just mowed the grass on what God put in place. Design is such that golfers of all skill levels can find a suitable tee, and really enjoy themselves. Tee boxes are generally medium large, and most are flat, with a few not quite level. Fairways are all generously proportioned in the landing areas, with no trick shots required. Greens are medium large and almost all are contoured to some extent. Bunkers are plentiful, and it is a rare player who can go the whole round without hitting at least a few of them.

Conditions today were excellent, although the greens were a little slower than their usual summer speed. The course is walkable, although there is some elevation change, and in a few cases, a long hike from green to the next tee.

Practice green and driving range are available. The carts have GPS, which is a real help. The clubhouse is a hilltop edifice, with a commanding view of the course and environs. Has a nice pro shop, a good sized snack bar, and meeting and banquet rooms. Staff is excellent: professional and hospitable. The course is somewhat remote, but the signage is good from the main roads.

I did not rate this course as vacation worthy, as there is no suitable lodging nearby, but it is very much worth a trip. Highly recommend.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I pay dues to belong to a private course in the area and still make a conscious decision to play Greystone 4-5 times a year.

Greystone is an excellent course, but the greens were not in good condition when I played. They were slow and bumpy. The way the greens are shaped, with a lot of undulation and elevation change, slow and bumpy is absolutely the worst possible condition.

Would travel: 30 -60 miles
Bottom line: I would play again
